Having met Awaiting Trial Men (ATM) inmates who have been in the prison for four, five and seven years, the club subsequently felt the need to have a legal department that will solicit for justice for the abandoned ATM. The trauma of the awaiting trial inmates of the Nigerian Prison is better imagined than said. By justice delayed, the judicial system has stolen the youth of many a young persons. The Club applied to the Pankshin Local Government Council for Youth Corps Lawyers, and this request was granted. Immediately the Lawyers began soliciting for justice for the poor. The inmates are counseled appropriately and this hastens the course of justice for many.
The Club’s Legal Department has been instrumental to the freedom of a number of inmates, who if not for this intervention could still be in the prison, awaiting trial; perhaps till His kingdom come! City of Refuge continue to use Youth Corps Lawyers, and also the Legal Aid Council as the need arises. City of Refuge offers counseling service to inmates. When ATM inmates go to court, Club members accompany them, thereby giving them moral support.
